Integration: Why a Breakthrough Is Only the Starting Line

A breakthrough isn't the finish line, it's the starting line. Jason explains why awareness alone doesn't change anything, and how real change comes from integration: taking what you've learned and practicing it in real life, over and over, just like reps on the training floor.

One of the mistakes people make after a breakthrough is thinking the work is done.

It's not. The work has just begun.

For example, if you want to get stronger in the gym, one workout isn't enough. You need reps. You need consistency. You need time.

With personal growth work, it works exactly the same way.

We have a breakthrough in coaching, or on a retreat. We finally understand why we think, feel or behave a certain way. And that's important. But awareness isn't the end of it. It's where we begin.

What we need to do then is integration. Integration happens when you take what you've learned and practice it in real life.

  • Maybe for you it's realizing you avoid conflict. So now you have the difficult conversation.
  • Maybe it's realizing you struggle to ask for help. So you reach out to a mate.
  • Maybe it's realizing you have poor boundaries. So now you start saying no.

And then you do it again. And again. And again.

Just like the gym, your change comes from reps and consistency, over and over again.

Awareness tells you what the problem is. But actually integrating and creating change is proving to yourself, through action, that you're no longer the same person who created it.

Let me know your thoughts, and have an awesome day.

Where integration happens: every week, in Denver

A weekend retreat can crack something open. What keeps it open is a weekly rhythm with other men who'll notice when you slip. That's the job of the free KORU Men's Workout Club on Saturday mornings, and of semi-private training at our South Broadway studio, where small groups of no more than six train with the same coach week after week.

Reps for the body, reps for the rest of you. If you're in Denver and want a place to practice, reach out.
